The town of Westminster, South Carolina, was established in
1872 when the railroad was completed south of Chauga's
Crossing and a station was built in this area. The first and
only church building for many years was shared by Baptists,
Presbyterians and Methodists each holding services once a
month.
The Westminster Methodist Church was organized in 1876 and
its first church was built on the sight of the present church
on East Main Street but located about 150 feet nearer the
railroad.
The Westminster United Methodist Church as it is known
today is alive and well. The Reverend Edward L. Mainous and
his wife Dorothy lead our church family. Angela Cobb is our
accomplished pianist.
The Sunday worship service attendance averages 45 and there
are presently 15 children active in Joyful Jingles in the
church. Morning worship begins at 11:00am each Sunday. Adult
Sunday School is at 9:45am. Children's Church is held during
morning worship, led by Angela Lafaille.
Westminster UMC is a safe sanctuary facility. Everyone is
welcome to join us during any of the events. Call
